HOW TO INSTALL THE GRAYBOE UNIVERSAL MINI CHASSIS (UMC) The Grayboe Universal Mini Chassis (UMC) is designed to give shooters a rigid, repeatable, metal-to-metal interface without the need for bedding or gunsmith work. Whether you’re upgrading from a factory stock or switching from another chassis system, installation is straightforward and can be completed in minutes. This guide covers everything you need to know—from tools and hardware to torque values and magazine fitment. COMPATIBLE ACTIONS The Grayboe UMC is compatible with true Remington 700 footprint actions, including: Remington 700 (Short & Long Action) Defiance Lone Peak Terminus Zermatt (Zerat) Mack Bros Bergara B-14 Other true R700 clones If your action fits a Remington 700 inlet, it will fit the UMC. WHAT COMES IN THE BOX Each Universal Mini Chassis ships with: Universal Mini Chassis (UMC) UMC-to-stock mounting screws Long Action: one short front screw, one longer rear screw with washers Short Action: both screws are the same length Action screws (barreled action to chassis) Optional magazine stop roll pin All hardware is clearly labeled for easy identification. TOOLS REQUIRED You’ll only need basic hand tools: 5/32" Allen key (UMC to stock) 3/16" Allen key (action screws) Inch-pound torque wrench (recommended) STEP 1: INSTALL THE MINI CHASSIS INTO THE STOCK Drop the Universal Mini Chassis into the stock inlet making sure it sits fully flush. Install the UMC-to-stock screws: Long Action: short screw with washer in front, long screw with washer in the rear Short Action: either screw can be used front or rear Torque both screws to 60 inch-pounds. STEP 2: REMOVE FACTORY STOCK COMPONENTS Remove your barreled action from its factory stock. Factory bottom metal such as BDL floorplates or ADL blind magazines are not reused with the UMC system. The Universal Mini Chassis replaces all factory bottom metal. STEP 3: INSTALL THE BARRELED ACTION Set the barreled action into the installed mini chassis. Install the two supplied action screws (same length front and rear). Torque both action screws to 45 inch-pounds. STEP 4: MAGAZINE FIT AND FUNCTION CHECK Insert an AICS-pattern magazine and verify proper fit. Long Action UMCs accept CIP-length 3.850” AICS magazines Confirm smooth bolt travel and reliable feeding OPTIONAL: MAGAZINE STOP INSTALLATION Most AICS magazines do not require a magazine stop. If you experience excessive upward magazine movement, install the supplied roll pin into the side hole of the UMC to limit upward movement. If your magazine locks up cleanly without it, the pin is not needed. ALTERNATE INSTALLATION METHOD You may also install the barreled action into the mini chassis first, then place the complete assembly into the stock and secure it with the UMC screws. Both methods are equally valid. WHY THE GRAYBOE UMC IS DIFFERENT No bedding required No factory bottom metal Predefined torque specs Rigid aluminum chassis molded into the stock AICS magazine compatibility Repeatable accuracy and durability
