UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENT BOTTOM METAL OPTIONS FOR GRAYBOE STOCKS

When it comes to upgrading or customizing your rifle, choosing the right bottom metal is crucial for performance, fit, and function. At Grayboe, all our stocks are built with the M5 footprint, but we often get asked, “Which bottom metal do I need?” Let’s break down the three main options: the M5 Floor Plate, Hunter DBM, and Standard DBM.

1. M5 FLOOR PLATE (SHORT AND LONG ACTION) The M5 floor plate is a traditional BDL-style hinged floor plate setup. It functions similarly to a standard Remington BDL system. When using this option, you'll need to source a spring, mag box, and follower—either from your existing setup or from suppliers like Redhawk Rifles. This option is ideal for shooters looking to maintain a classic hunting rifle configuration while still benefiting from Grayboe's modern stock design.

2. HUNTER DBM The Hunter Detachable Box Magazine (DBM) is designed with simplicity and elegance in mind for hunting applications. It features: No barricade stop A rounded trigger bow for a sleek, ergonomic feel An internal magazine release located inside the trigger bow Once installed, it sits nearly flush with the bottom of the stock, making it a low-profile choice perfect for hunters seeking clean lines and ease of carry in the field.

3. STANDARD DBM The Standard DBM is a more tactical option, offering additional features such as: A built-in barricade stop on the front A paddle-style external mag release for fast, intuitive access A squared-off trigger bow for a more rugged, tactical appearance This model is better suited for precision shooters or tactical applications where rapid magazine changes and sturdy handling are key.

FITMENT AND COMPATIBILITY Both the Hunter and Standard DBM models, as well as the M5 floor plate, are available for long action setups and are fully compatible with any Grayboe stock featuring the M5 inlet. While the dimensions and fit remain consistent across models, the key differences lie in function and style preference.

Conclusion: Choosing the right bottom metal comes down to how you use your rifle. Whether you're a traditionalist favoring a BDL floor plate or a tactical shooter needing the quick-change capability of a DBM, Grayboe has an M5 option that fits your needs.
