DO YOU NEED TO BED YOUR RIFLE IN A GRAYBOE STOCK?

Hey everyone, Steve here with Grayboe. One of the most common questions we get from customers is: “Do I need to bed my rifle when using a Grayboe stock?” It’s a fair question—especially for shooters who want every ounce of performance and consistency from their setup. So, let’s clear the air.

IS BEDDING REQUIRED?

The short answer is no—bedding is not required when using a Grayboe stock. Our stocks are precision-molded with exact tooling, meaning the action inlets are built directly into the mold itself. This results in a repeatable, consistent fit every single time. There’s no post-machining, no user-dependent variables. What you get is a surface that’s practically perfect right out of the mold. That means whether you're dropping in a long or short action, your barreled action will nest securely with a one-to-one fit—no bedding compound needed.

WHAT IF I STILL WANT TO BED MY ACTION?

Some gunsmiths and shooters just prefer the peace of mind that comes from bedding. Maybe they feel the rifle fits better, or that it adds a layer of custom precision. That’s totally fine. Our stocks are absolutely bedding-compatible, and doing so will not void any warranty. If bedding gives you more confidence in your setup, go for it. But rest assured—it’s a matter of preference, not necessity.

INTERCHANGEABILITY YOU CAN COUNT ON

Thanks to our consistent molding process, you can take your barreled action out of one Grayboe stock and drop it into another—and it will fit and function exactly the same. That kind of interchangeability is part of the value we build into every stock we make.

FINAL THOUGHTS

At Grayboe, our goal is to give you a rugged, precise, and reliable platform right out of the box. So if you’re asking whether bedding your stock is required, the answer is a confident no. But if you like to bed your action—go for it. Your rifle, your call.
